if.comedy Nominee Rhod Gilbert

2008 has been a phenomenal year for the welsh sensation. Since his if.comedy nomination in August, Rhod has been busy playing to sell-out audiences around the country on a nationwide tour. The Autumn leg culminated with an 8 night sell-out run at the Soho Theatre (December 12 – 20). Due to overwhelming public demand, he's been on the road again from January 15th and will be performing his critically acclaimed show in over 70 venues nationwide – ending with a gig in his hometown of Cardiff on March 29th 2009 at the prestigious Millennium Centre.

He's recently clocked up a number of high profile TV appearances including Channel 4's '8 out of 10 Cats' and the prestigious Bafta nominated 'Live At The Apollo' for BBC One. Topping off a fantastic year, Rhod had the honour of performing at this year's Royal Variety Performance at the iconic London Palladium alongside a star-studded line-up including Peter Kay, Jimmy Carr, The Pussycat Dolls, Duffy, Take That, Leona Lewis and Sir Cliff Richard to name but a few.

Rhod has also recently recorded the pilot episode of his new sitcom 'Rhod Gilbert's Leaving Llanbobl' for BBC Radio 2. The show is based in Llanbobl, the fictional Welsh village which has become legendary in his stand-up routines and sees him leaving his top-flight Manager's job in Newport's 'Mr. Shoes' to return to his family home and attempt to repair the damage done by his mother leaving his father in favour of Ivor Evans, the family milkman.

Rhod's weekly radio show continues to go from strength to strength (BBC Radio Wales every Saturday 11am – 1pm) and he was nominated for Best Radio Personality at the 2008 Celtic Media Awards. He has also recently guested on the legendary Just A Minute and Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4) and followed in the footsteps of Michael McIntyre, hosting the recent series of 4 Stand's Up, also for BBC Radio 4.

He has proudly represented his country providing the voice-over for the Welsh Tourist Board's national television advertising campaign since 2005. As his profile continues to soar, he has been chosen to front their new nationwide TV campaign and will be gracing our screens this year in a series of TV commercials to encourage more visitors to Wales.
